The ImExposure app provides an opportunity to repeatedly engage in an audio-guided imaginal exposure exercise oriented to social speech anxiety. The exercise recording can apply to a variety of academic speaking exercises (e.g., talking in class, talking to an instructor after class, or giving a presentation) and social situations (e.g., talking at a party or asking someone out on a date).
Prior to engaging in the imaginal exposure exercises, psychoeducation videos are provided to provide the rationale for exposure and imaginal exposure more specifically, as well as translating this exercise into real life (in vivo) exposures. Additionally, a personalized fear hierarchy is created by the user to select specific situations around which the exercise imagery should be created.
After completing the each exercise, a series of follow-up questions are asked about anxiety levels related to the imaginal exposures, the vividness and reality of the imagery, and information related to any in vivo exposures completed between exercises.
